While Boston has many sushi restaurants to choose from, I have a soft spot for Snappy Sushi on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay. Thanks to a well timed Gilt City Boston offer, I seized the opportunity to invite a friend out for a delicious dinner out on the town.
I’ll be honest – I haven’t sampled the entire menu at Snappy Sushi. I happened to stumble upon two rolls I love and order them over and over again. The first is the Tuna Gone Wild Roll, which has the incredible combination of torched albacore tuna, avocado, cucumber, green leaf, ginger, and wild sesame with yuzu-miso glaze and a black flying fish roe garnish. The torched tuna is presented on top and the flavor when combined with the yuzo-miso glaze is amazing.
I also genuinely enjoy the Boston Lobster Roll, which is a decadent mix of avocado, cucumber, and green leaf rolled together, then dressed with chopped lobster meat mixed with red onion and flying fish roe in wasabi-butter sauce. The Lobster is also presented on top and looks like the interior of a traditional lobster roll sandwich. It’s a nice marriage of a sushi roll and a Boston classic.
We also enjoyed a few cocktails and miso soup. We tried a few other rolls which were good, but not as amazing as my two favorites. Guess there’s just something to be said for treating yourself to a treasured favorite!
Snappy Sushi is located at 108 Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay. The restaurant has a fantastic outdoor patio in the summer. There is also a second location in Davis Square that I’ve never visited at 420 Highland Ave.
