Highlights From GSMI’s Social Media Strategies Summit (SMSS) in Boston

Last week was very busy – the good kind of busy. The kind of busy that results in a satisfying sense of accomplishment. I was fortunate to speak (twice!) at and attend GSMI’s Social Media Strategies Summit in Boston. Featuring dynamic social media experts from across the country, I spent three days meeting new people and catching up with industry friends, all while soaking up as much as possible.

As someone who considers herself to be a lifelong learner, I love the educational yet inspirational nature of a good conference. Through the conference, I was able to meet and re-connect with some amazing people from the Boston Celtics, Definition 6, Intel, NCAA, Mercedes-Benz, Panera Bread, Seven for All Mankind, Silk/White Wave Foods, and many more.

Saturday, July 9: The Greenway Open Market Debuts in Boston

Greenway Open Market

There’s a new market in town! Weekends in the city were made for strolling and this Saturday, July 9, Bostonians can kick off their weekend with a proper wander around the Greenway Open Market. Open between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. along the stretch of parks between Surface Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and High Street, the Greenway Open Market is organized by the same folks who brought the amazing SoWa Open Market to Beantown.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that this new market plans to take a page from their successful South End sibling with an array of art and craft vendors, plus several food trucks. As someone who was there when the Greenway first opened (while hosting an event for a former employer in the Chinatown park), I’m especially excited to see how the market is set up. Tip: the Haymarket Open Air Market is also nearby if you’re looking for a fresh fruit and veggie fix!

The Greenway Open Market will be open every Saturday from 11am-4pm through September 17, while the SoWa Open Market will continue to rule Sundays from 10am-4pm through the end of October.

Local Bloggers Unite At BostonBloggers.com

Three cheers for the Boston blogging community! Recently, the lovely Kinsey Michaels popped into my inbox with an exciting announcement: a swanky new website dedicated to shining a spotlight on local bloggers. Please give a warm welcome to BostonBloggers.com.

Though I’ve been blogging since 2006 and read many local blogs, nothing could have prepared me for the extensive blogroll on BostonBloggers.com. Who knew there were so many of us? And, that we’re all such a talented bunch of writers, photographers, chefs and thought leaders? The words astonished, proud and excited come to mind.

In addition to linking to local blogs, this site features profiles of local bloggers, plus events to encourage the Boston blogging community to meet in person. A big thanks to Kinsey for creating and continually populating this site with fresh, relevant content.

Please visit BostonBloggers.com and immerse yourself in our amazing local blogging community. And, if you’re a Boston Blogger, don’t forget to get yourself on the list!

Monday, January 17: Free Open House at the MFA

MFA Art of the Americas Wing Interior

Ah, long weekends.  I don’t know about you, but I cherish that extra day off and always look to enjoy it properly by doing something special.  This long weekend, I’m envisioning catching up with friends while soaking up a little culture.  Lucky for us Bostonians, on Monday, January 17, the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) is openings its doors to the public for free in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Made possible courtesy of the Citizens Bank Foundation, the MFA’s free open house runs from 10:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. and is an excellent opportunity to check out the museum’s new Art of the Americas wing.  As if the new wing and free admission weren’t incentive enough, the MFA has also organized a variety of special programs that celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., including concerts from musicians at The Berklee College of Music and interactive art activities.

Much better than spending your day in an office, right?

The Museum of Fine Arts is located along the Avenue of the Arts at 465 Huntington Avenue in Boston.  For more information, please visit the MFA’s website: http://www.mfa.org/
