Trying Something New – Highlights Of The Week

They say you cannot teach an old dog new tricks, but what about an OG blogger!? Inspired by the number of weekly vlogs and blog post round-ups I love to read and watch, I thought I would try my hand at it. Every week is an adventure for me, from events, to travels, cool new product discoveries, shopping finds, new London hotspots, and many, many more. I’m going to try a new format – blog post summary and more in depth YouTube video – depending on how you prefer to consume content. Please let me know if you like these formats and what you would like to see or hear more about!

Food: Trying BluePrint Raw Green Juice

IMG_2477As an equal opportunity foodist, I’ve been hearing and reading about the health benefits of green juice for ages. While in Whole Foods, I stumbled upon BluePrint’s Raw Green Juice featuring a healthy-sounding mix of kale, apple, ginger, romaine, spinach, cucumber, parsley and lemon and couldn’t help but wonder….but how does it taste?

The answer – not terrible, but definitely not great. It tastes, well, like you might expect a healthy green juice to taste. It’s mild enough and the mix is well done so that none of the ingredients are overpowering, but I’m not sure it was for me. I actually found that adding a small splash of agave helped. But, at the $10 (yikes) price tag at Whole Foods, I probably won’t be hopping on the green juice revolution. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing which is supplementing my frozen berry and banana smoothies with spinach, kale, Vega One and/or other green goodies. Not as nutritionally sound, but pretty darn tasty.

However, BluePrint also has other juice varieties that feature beets, etc., so I may have to try something a little less intimidating next time…

Happy 30th Birthday To Me!

IMG_1175After whirlwind trips to Paris and London, I came home to properly celebrate my 30th birthday. A 30th birthday comes but once in a lifetime and I couldn’t have been happier to celebrate with friends and family. And, in the true spirit of such an occasion, the celebrating actually started over Thanksgiving and continued on until December 17, my actual birthday. From champagne, to cake, s’mores, thoughtful presents and cards, I’m grateful for all of the amazing people I have in my life. Here are a few snapshots from the occasion.

Food: Sweet Lydia’s Toasted Coconut Marshmallows

Mmmmm….marshmallows! Typically perfect for soaking up hot cocoa or spilling over the side of a gooey s’more, it’s rare that marshmallows are the star of the show…until now. During a jaunt to the SoWa Winter Market, I discovered just how satisfying this confection could be on its own by sampling the toasted coconut mashmallows from Sweet Lydia’s.

Perfectly described as extra fluffy, eight good-sized marshmallows come in a pack for $4.50. While this Savvy Bostonian has only tried toasted coconut, the marshmallows also come in thirteen other tempting flavors like Mocha, Pumpkin Spice and Caramel. In addition to delectable marshmallows, Sweet Lydia’s has other crave-worthy offerings like personalized s’mores (omg!!!) and a cool blog that make her site worth a visit: http://sweetlydias.com/.

Excuse me while I take a bite...

Travel: Highlights From a Lovely Weekend in NYC

SavvyBostonian Note: I traveled to NYC the weekend before Hurricane Irene.

I cannot resist the thrill of a jam-packed weekend in New York City, so when my favorite dynamic duo invited me for a visit, I jumped at the opportunity. Before I knew it, I was hopping aboard the Acela with visions of wine bars, sightseeing adventures and lots of amazing food.
