Come travel with me to the Andaz Delhi, a five-star luxury hotel in India. In this blog post, I share a detailed look at my hotel room, the hotel grounds, and breakfast. If you want to see a more in-depth review video of my stay, watch the YouTube video below!
I stayed at the Andaz Delhi in October 2019, before COVID-19 changed the way we travel. This review will reflect my pre COVID-19 travel experience.
The Location
The hotel is located just 10 minutes from the Delhi Airport. I decided to spend a night at the airport because my flight arrived closer to midnight and I was traveling alone to Delhi. Instead of trying to go all the way to my other hotel, which was further away, I opted to stay at the airport for the night. To get to the hotel, I arranged for the hotel driver to pick me up at the airport, which is customary when traveling to India. It’s super easy – the driver will wait for you by the door where you exist after going through immigration with a sign that says your name. They also typically wear a polo shirt with the hotel logo, which makes them easy to identify. I highly recommend this instead of trying to hail your own taxi or uber if you’re not a local.
The Arrival
Upon arrival, I was super impressed by the customer service at this hotel. It’s a refreshing oasis to the hustle and bustle of Delhi. Yes, even by the airport the roads are busy, filled with cows, cars, motorbikes, TukTuks, busses, all honking their horns. Well, not the cows .
The wonderful staff at the front desk welcomed by graciously, and also gave me a late check-out, which was much appreciated, as I was checking in after midnight. I was walked to my room, all while getting an overview on the hotel, its amenities and the room.
The Room
The room is massive! I think it was easily bigger than my last flat in London. The style is minimal chic, with a massive bed, TV console table, a desk/couch area and a bathroom with open floor plan elements. The bed, while huge, was very hard. I would have preferred something slightly softer, so if I ever stay here again, I’ll be inquiring about mattress pads or extra bedding beforehand. Also, the in-room temperature was not working for me – it was stuck on a freezing cold temperature that woke me up in the middle of the night shivering. However, once I turned it off, the temperature was fine.
The bathroom is also as expected. The water pressure in the shower was good, but unfortunately the temperature was lukewarm at best. This was disappointing, as I was hoping for a luxurious hot shower, but I was told that this is common in India. On a positive note, I loved the bathroom sink area and all of the little amenities it came with. If you had forgotten something, it would have most likely been waiting for you there!
The Breakfast
Breakfast came included with my room rate and I would highly recommend it. The breakfast buffet is overwhelmingly massive. I mean this as a compliment! I wanted to linger for hours to eat everything. The buffet had a mix of western and traditional Indian breakfast items. I was especially impressed by the sweets area, which came complete with a donut wall! I opted for an Indian breakfast and a vanilla latte, both of which were incredible. I left appropriately stuffed!
The Hotel Grounds
This is where the Andaz Delhi truly stands out. The design of the hotel is so well-done. I loved wandering around the hotel to see the different design elements and special touches, like the ornate floor designs for Diwali.
I was also swooning over the gorgeous hotel pool. As I was checking out on the day of Diwali, I was warned to leave for my other hotel at a reasonable time, as it was a long drive and people start to light firecrackers in the streets! So, this unfortunately meant that I didn’t have time to hop into the pool or use the amazing gym or spa. This just means that I’ll need to come back so I can properly review them, right?
Safety/Security
I had no issues with safety/security while at this hotel. While I understand that safety is a bigger concern while traveling in India, especially as a female solo traveler, I can say that I never felt unsafe at the hotel. Everyone that I interacted was so friendly and interested in helping me! I will mention that the rooms do have in-room safes, if that is of concern to you.
Final Verdict: Would I Stay Here Again?
Yes! Even though there were a few hiccups, the positives outnumbered the negatives. I also would love to come back to experience the pool, spa, and gym.
