It’s that time again – time for another round-up of new skincare hits and misses! If you’re a regular reader of The SavvyBostonian, you will know that I’m a beauty and makeup junkie. I love trying new products and sharing my favorite recommendations. All items shared in this post were purchased by yours truly.
This time, I’m sharing my feedback on Bioderma Hydrabio Serum Moisturizing Concentrate, Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser, Sephora Collection Age Defy Eye Cream, Patchology Eye Revive FlashPatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels and Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF30.
What would I re-purchase and recommend? What didn’t make the cut? Read on!
Bioderma Hydrabio Serum Moisturizing Concentrate:
When I heard this serum was meant for dry, dehydrated skin, I knew I had to try it. The serum claims to “retrain the skin” to activate its natural moisturizing capacities.
My verdict? While I did like this product and felt that it worked with my dry skin, I wasn’t impressed enough to re-purchase. I have other serums in my kit that I like better, but I will say for the price, this would be a good one to check out if you’re looking for a budget friendly hydrating serum.
Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser
I got this cleanser for free at Sephora through their VIB rewards program.
My verdict? While it claims to be a gentle cleanser, I found it incredibly drying, to the point where it sucked all of the oil out of my skin and made it feel rubbery. While this product markets itself as gentle, I wasn’t clear on if it’s for dry or oily skin until I tried it. Perhaphs those with oily skin would love it?
Sephora Collection Age Defy Eye Cream
I also received a free sample of this product through Sephora’s VIB program. An eye cream that’s supposed to hydrate and diminish dark circles? Consider me intrigued.
My verdict? I found the eye cream to be just OK. For those who read this blog regularly, my cult favorite is Dermadoctor’s Wrinkle Revenge Eye Balm. I have very dry under eyes and I’ve been on the hunt for other options ever since Dermadoctor pulled out of the UK.
While this eye cream is decent and reasonably priced, I wasn’t impressed enough to re-purchase. Perhaps it’s for the best, as Sephora is also super hard to buy from in the UK. The company didn’t want to be present in the UK (could it be a GDPR issue?) and now forces an auto-redirect to anyone from the UK to their France website. It results in a horrible customer experience, especially when you want to, say, order Christmas and birthday gifts for people from the U.S. site and have it mailed to a U.S. address and you cannot. I expect better from you Sephora!
Rant aside, had I liked the eye cream, I would have told you. I’m not that mean :). I still do shop Sephora in the U.S., when it makes sense. However, they’ve lost a lot of my money to other retailers because of this silly auto-direct policy.
Patchology Eye Revive FlashPatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels
My dear friend Biana of B Loved Boston gave me a pair of these eye gels as a gift. Made with hydrolysed collagen, caffeine, among other ingredients, these eye gels pack a powerful hydration punch. To say that I was excited to try them is an understatement!
My verdict? These eye gels give me life. As mentioned, I suffer from dry under eyes and these have helped me on numerous occasions. If money were no object, I would use them allll the time. The best part? They’re easy to source both in the U.S. and the UK – music to my ears!
Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield
With my dry skin, I haven’t been a big fan of primers. However, when I heard that Murad’s primer was more hydrating, had SPF 30 and promised to deliver a blurring effect, I knew I needed to give it a try.
The verdict? I love this primer! Candidly, I don’t use it – or any primer – everyday. I use it for special occasions or when my skin needs a boost. My only wish? That Murad would also make this product in a travel size so I could take it on my travels!
