BOSTON, FAB FINDS

Fab Finds: Shopping In Boston – What I Bought!

I have a confession to make. I splurged a bit while shopping in Boston. I’ve been living the frugal life for a bit, but the sales in America are always just too good to resist. With almost everything I purchased about 30-50% off, sometimes a girl just needs to update her wardrobe a bit.

Here’s what I scored…

T By Tahari Red Dress

This dress is just lovely! I adore the bright red color and the A-line silhouette is so flattering. It’s perfect for work or er, play? I grabbed this dress in a size 2 at the Lord & Taylor sale at 30% off, but here are a few options at where you can purchase it. The dress is currently priced at $128 (but they ship to the UK!) – grab it on Lord & Taylor’s website here.

Calvin Klein White & Beige Animal Print Blouse

My love for Calvin Klein blouses runs deep. So much so, that whenever I come back to the USA, I blow into Lord & Taylor or Macy’s to see if there are any new colors or patterns I like in this style. No joke, these blouses do not wrinkle and are easy to wash in your washing machine, making them great for travel and budget-friendly in the sense that you can skip the dry cleaner. They run a touch big (I’m an XS), making them great with skinny jeans, leggings or even tucked into a dress skirt, also making them great for work or leisure time (see a theme here?). I scored this at Lord & Taylor in the 30% off sale, but you can get it for $69.50 on the Lord & Taylor website or a very similar non-animal print version on the Zappos website if animal print is not your thing!

Vince Camuto Olive Green Satin-y Blouse

This Vince Camuto blouse has a fantastic quality fabric by my novice opinion and is in a peplum style. Instead of cinching in at the waist it’s straight up and down, which I love. I picked it up in an XS. It’s so comfortable, but looks elegant in olive green, making it perfect for a night out. It does also come in navy, black and a lilac color – I should have bought it in black too – maybe I will! I also think it could be nice for work as well with a blazer, black jeans and boots, especially on a night where you have drinks or dinner plans after work. I also purchased this at Lord & Taylor on the 30% off sale, but it’s currently reduced from $89 to $66.75 on the Lord & Taylor website AND…for $62.30 on the Bloomingdales website AND seriously, wait for it, the bargain of ’em all on Nordstrom’s website for $53.40, so score it now!!

BCBG Generation Black Blazer

This purchase is a replacement one. I’ve had a very similar BCBC Generation blazer for YEARS but the black has faded over time. I have such a thing for cool blazers and this one gets worn all the time because it is so soft and pairs amazingly with so many of my cute tops. I would have preferred to get one without the braided detail on the back, but this was the only one in a size small, so I’m going with it. It’s good to mix it up, right? I also got this in the Lord & Taylor sale, but ironically the only one available on their website is the one I previously had for $118. I also found the exact one I purchased on Amazon for $128, which is the price I would have paid for it, if it wasn’t 30% off in the L&T sale.

Ann Taylor Kelly Green Dress

I’ve been trying to stock up on statement dresses in solid colors. I speak at a lot of conferences and my style is to wear bold, jewel-toned colors like red, purple, green, blue. Solid colors photograph better than patterns and I believe that if you’re on stage a color also helps to command attention. Save the black and navy dresses for business meetings! As a result, when I saw Ann Taylor was having a 40% off sale, I had to stop in. I saw this cute kelly green dress with the ruffles and knew it would be a great addition to my wardrobe. It’s great for a conference, but also something I would wear while out and about with friends. The dress is regularly priced at $139, but Ann Taylor is running a special sale where all dresses are $75 for a limited time, so go go go – link here.

7 For All Mankind The Skinny Jeans

These were the only non-sale purchase, because, well, they’re rarely on sale. We do have 7 For All Mankind in London, but I find it a lot more expensive than in the US with the exchange rate. It’s probably been a year since I have bought a pair and I’ve been loving a very specific style – the regular length high-waisted ‘the skinny.’ They offer this style in both ‘regular’ and ‘ankle’ length. Fair warning – if you’re tall – I’m 5’7″ – the ankle length is way too short – think 3/4 length feel like cropped pants! I did not have a dark blue pair in this style – and yet I have three black pairs – so that’s what I went for. I scooped them up for $179 at Saks – link to their website here.

Final Thoughts

So yes, this was definitely a splurge-y shopping week. But, I honestly don’t have much time to shop when I’m at home in London, and I know these purchases are all practical and will be great for work or leisure. With very minimal closet and storage space in my tiny flat, I am very much about fewer, better pieces these days!
