In the spirit of sharing a good deal, please allow me to introduce you to Tapeo in Boston. Tapeo is a fantastic Spanish style tapas restaurant on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay with a lovely outdoor patio, interior seating and bar area. While it’s almost irresistible not to sit on their great patio on a nice summer day, the $15 per person minimum is not always ideal when you just want a little snack. Enter, the $5 tapas menu at the bar.
The menu at the bar changes frequently, but always seems to have a list of Tapeo’s famous standby’s. The best part is that they’re the same size as their full priced counterparts. I met a friend on a Sunday evening and we had quite a budget-friendly feast!
In addition to a budget-friendly menu at the bar, you’re also served delicious bread with your meal, which is perfect for the baked goat cheese dish. Featuring a thick tomato sauce scented with basil, the goat cheese is baked until warm, making it perfect for dipping or spreading. As seen in the backdrop of the photo, we also ordered two potato croquettes, which were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside.
Another delicious tapas dish included nicely spiced octopus rings (or pulpo). Served chilled, the dish featured a great mix of spices with a refreshing lemon to season to taste.
Last, but most certainly not least, was a very interesting chicken dish. The chicken was stuffed with goat’s milk cheese and came in a tangy ginger, saffron and white wine sauce. It was decadent and immediately gobbled up.
Tapeo is located at 266 Newbury Street between Gloucester and Fairfield. Depending on the time of day, it’s not always easy to get a seat at the bar, but if you can, I highly recommend!
