Fashion: Fossil Watches

IMG_1090My love for unique watches is well-documented on this blog, so when the folks at Fossil invited me to a holiday preview at their Newbury Street shop, I was tempted. To be honest, though I walk by the store frequently, I hadn’t ventured inside. Would their watches be a fit for my somewhat eclectic taste? Let’s just say that I’m glad that I accepted the invitation, because the answer ended up being a big YES.

I subscribe to the belief that a watch, if selected carefully, is more than just an instrument to tell time. A watch is an extension of your personal style and a conversation piece. I can’t tell you how many times someone has struck up a conversation simply because I was wearing a unique watch.

So, what do I look for in a watch? First and foremost, size matters. For someone like me with an incredibly small wrist, bigger is not better. As such, I seek out small watch faces. I also typically prefer roman numerals and gold versus silver. However, these rules are not set in stone, as you’ll see with the watches I liked the most.

I broke quite a few of my watch selection rules with the Heather Mini Resin Watch – Tort ($115). Though I typically prefer roman numerals, something about this watch spoke to me. Perhaps it’s the menswear inspiration and feminine shape, or the lovely tortoiseshell finish. All I know is that I am tempted to add this watch to my collection! I also think it would be super cool if Fossil designed this watch style in a small octagon shape (vs. the round) – that would be stunning and unlike anything else on the market. Though a tad on the large size for me, I just love the combination of navy and gold with a touch of sparkle. Inspired by 1920’s-era men’s dress watches, the Wallace Leather Watch – Blue ($125) is exactly the type of watch that I would give as a gift. I think the color combination is unique, but could work for day or night. To learn more about this watch click here to view it on the Fossil.com website.

The third watch that I really enjoyed pays homage to my love for black and gold. I own so much in this color combination, that this chic timepiece would be a welcome addition to my wardrobe. Called the Georgia Leather Watch – Black ($95), I think the contrast of the slim leather strap to the the larger watch face (but not too large!) makes it pop on your wrist. All in all, I enjoyed my time at the Fossil holiday preview. It’s worth noting that I also really enjoyed a number of the sunglasses and bracelets there, so stay tuned for a future post to check out my recommendations!

The SavvyBostonian was a guest of Fossil at this event as was gifted the lovely Emma Leather Watch – Red ($125) after attending the event. All watches featured in this blog entry are her personal recommendations.
