BOSTON

Hey Bostonians – What Are You Thankful For This Thanksgiving? 2011 Edition

I'm thankful for many long runs and walks along the Charles River in Boston

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s the time of year when we all pause and reflect on what we’re thankful for in life. How often do we stop and think about the many things that make Boston so wonderful? Following last year’s successful blog entry on what Bostonians are thankful for about Boston, I couldn’t resist asking friends and @savvybostonian Twitter followers to participate again this year.

Once again, the results are a nice reflection of the many interesting and thoughtful people that inhabit our lovely city:

—————————–

“I’m thankful for the sense of public service that is so strong w/ Bostonians. Everyone I know volunteers in some way!” – The Boston Fashionista

“This year, I’m most thankful for my wonderful group of friends and all that they do to brighten my days and nights here in Boston.” – Gideon, Back Bay

“I’m thankful for all the new restaurants coming to West Roxbury, they have been long needed.” – Abby, West Roxbury (who is also thankful to have successfully avoided the Occupy Wall Street protesters!)

I'm thankful to live in a city with to many quaint streets, like my favorite, Marlborough Street.

“I’m grateful for an itty bitty new family member to share Thanksgiving with, even if he’s much too tiny to enjoy any of the turkey (maybe not a bad thing since this year I may actually have to attempt to make said bird myself…)” – Alex, Somerville

—————————–

“I’m thankful for the passion that Boston sports fans have in support of the hometown teams… :)” – Aakar, Back Bay

—————————–

Electricity! Three days without it because of Irene sucked! Indoor plumbing – I am thankful for that every year!” – Leia, Quincy

—————————–

“I’m thankful for the amazing vegetarian sushi offerings from Genki-ya. Nobody does it like them.” – Michelle, Brookline

“I’m thankful for the history in boston; the architecture & monuments, and all the little stories of things that’ve happened.” – @saarah_ashleyy, Boston

Though I enjoy living in Boston, I'll have gone on around 15 trips before the end of the year, some for work, some for fun!

“The various supportive communities of all levels of runners is great! Definitely something to be thankful for!” – @Marathon_PT Newton, Norwood, Norton MA (Editor’s note: As a lifelong runner, I agree!)

“This year I am thankful for all the great restaurants that are opening up/have opened up in the Boston area.

I am thankful to live in a city where I can walk anywhere and everywhere.

I am thankful to live in Boston- because even if it’s not my “hometown” it feels more like home than any other place!!” – Biana, Brookline. (Editor’s note: I had a hard time stopping at three, thanks for all the good ideas, hun!)

So, what is this SavvyBostonian thankful for about Boston this year? I’m thankful to have a great job at a company that helps to keep people running. I’m thankful for great roommates and an apartment steps from some of the best areas in Boston. I’m also thankful for my ability to keep discovering something new about Boston, even though I’ve walked the same streets for years!

Last but certainly not least, I’m thankful to all of the Bostonians who shared what they are thankful for. Boston wouldn’t be the great city it is without wonderful people like you!

If you would like to add anything to this blog entry, leave a comment and I will incorporate it into this year’s list. Happy Thanksgiving!!
