The Weekend: October 2-3

Boston Local Food Festival

Rain, rain go away!  It’s the weekend again in Boston and luckily the wet weather will not be crashing our party.  After bidding adieu to Boston Fashion Week, this weekend is all about local food and spirits, between sampling sustainable cuisine from Boston-area vendors, to raising a pint in honor of Oktoberfest.  Here are my top picks for the weekend:

Saturday, October 2:
Boston Local Food Festival
On Saturday, October 2 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., celebrate Boston’s local and sustainable food scene at a fun outdoor festival along the Congress Street Bridge by the Boston Children’s Museum. Featuring more than 50 vendors ranging from local restaurants like Sportello, to the Blue Heron Farm, Taza chocolate and Wachusett Brewing Co., this free festival promises tons of food, live music and has an ambitious goal of producing zero waste.

21st Annual Harpoon Octoberfest

Somerville Oktoberfest

Conveniently located on the waterfront near the Boston Local Food Festival, Harpoon’s Octoberfest will open it’s doors to thirsty Bostonians from 2:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Known for their delicious beer, this ‘fest also serves up German food, keg bowling and, “the best chicken dancing this side of the Aps.” The cover charge for this 21+ event is $20 and includes a souvenir pint glass and one drink ticket. Be sure to arrive before 7:30 p.m., when the doors close to the public for the night.

Sunday, October 3:
Somerville’s Oktoberfest
Davis Square is embracing Oktoberfest on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the three B’s – Bratwurst, beer and a Mad Bavarian Brass Band. Positioning itself as a more family friendly gathering, this event offers an opportunity to indulge in a little German culture while hanging out in a very cool part of Boston.
